Wex Technologies Inc. (the "Company") is pleased to announce that
Health Canada (Health Products and Food Branch) has issued Drug
Identification Numbers (DIN) to the Company for topical CAPSAICIN
CREAM. Drug Identification Numbers are assigned to prescription
and over-the-counter drug products, and once issued, permits the
manufacturer to market the drug in Canada . This important milestone
marks the first product that the Company can sell in Canada , as
authorized by government health officials.
Capsaicin
has been found to help relieve neuralgia and pain from some arthritic
conditions including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Neuralgia
is pain, sometimes severe, that originates from the nerve endings
near the surface of the skin, e.g., diabetic neuropathy, tingling
and pain in the feet and toes, and pain related to shingles. Capsaicin
is available in strengths of 0.025% (mild), 0.05% (regular), or
0.075% (forte) cream.
The
acquisition of capsaicin cream is of particular importance to the
Company. With capsaicin (a vanilloid compound for mild to moderate
pain), and Tectin™
(a sodium channel blocker for moderate to severe pain), Wex will
be able to provide a product for both ends of the pain spectrum
while diversifying its portfolio. Furthermore, licensing agreements
with a Canadian company giving Wex worldwide rights will provide
the Company with a balanced product pipeline, with Capsaicin a marketed
compound, while other products are still in development.
Acquisition
is based on royalty payments with no "up front" financial obligations.
International Wex Technologies
Inc., a publicly listed neuro-bioscience company (WXI), is focused
on the development and commercialization of innovative drug products,
primarily for pain management. The Company's lead compound, Tetrodotoxin,
is a sodium channel blocker and is the platform for the Company's
development of a portfolio of proprietary products in the field
of analgesia, drug addiction withdrawal treatment, and local anaesthesia.
