International Wex Technologies Inc. (the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has just completed a short clinical trial (16 subjects cross over study) to evaluate the possibility of a new route of administration, subcutaneous injection (s.c.) in addition to the current intramuscular (i.m.) injection. The results clearly show that the two routes of dosing (i.m. and s.c.) provide comparable pharmacological effect, and hence the s.c. may provide an alternative route of dosing in future clinical studies.
The Company, in developing its pivotal clinical study protocol, has thoroughly investigated all the potential recruitment problems from the experience of the previous study. Patients with late-stage cancer have reduction in muscle mass and thus there is difficulty in finding a site for i.m. administration. This issue (limitation) may be overcome by the introduction of a new s.c. route which may represent a more convenient delivery method for dosing patients. A benefit of the s.c. route is that the needle is smaller in caliber and thus less painful.
In the area of neuro-bioscience, the Company is focusing on the fields of pain management, drug addiction treatment and anaesthesia. The Company is developing products that contain a sodium channel blocking compound and derivatives extracted from natural organic substances using its proprietary manufacturing technology.
