Dr. Bin Huang, President and Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Huang joined the company in November 2007. Her previous experience includes 2 years as CEO of GeneHarbour Technologies (Hong Kong) and 5 years as President and CEO of Cytovax Biotechnologies Inc. in Canada. Additionally, she served as Vice President of Business Development at Monsanto Canada, and was a top-ranked biotech analyst in Canada while she was a partner at GMP Securities. Dr. Huang received her PhD in cell biology from the University of East Anglia, UK, and her MBA from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Jean Bourgouin, Chief Scientific Officer: Dr. Bourgouin joined the Company in June 2008. He brings to WEX over 25 years of global clinical drug development experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He joined Rhône-Poulenc Rorer in Canada (now Sanofi-Aventis Canada) in 1982 and held positions of increasing responsibility, serving as Vice President of Scientific Affairs for eight years. In this role, he had responsibility for all stages of clinical development and product registration in Canada as well as registration and market access implementing health economics, health management and professional education strategies. He was previously Chief Medical Officer of WEX from March 2005 to March 2006 and Vice President Medical Affairs at Bradmer Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 2006 to 2007. Dr. Bourgouin is a graduate of Université de Montréal where he acquired a doctorate diploma in medicine. He went on to become Associate Professor in the Pharmacology Department of Université de Montréal. He received his B.A. from Collège Jean de Brébeuf, his M.Sc. in Pharmacology from Université de Montréal, and is a licensed member of the Medical Council of Canada.
Dr. Anh Ho Ngoc, Vice President Regulatory Affairs: Dr.
Anh Ho holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Catholic University
of Leuven, Belgium and a Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
from the University of Montreal, Canada. After working as a Research
Scientist at the Bureau of Drug Research, Health Canada for 3½ years,
she joined the Pharmaceutical Industry occupying different important
positions in Regulatory Affairs such as Manager and Director of
Department. During a 20-year career, Dr Ho has acquired hands-on
experience of Canadian and International drug laws and regulations,
as well as solid knowledge of the FDA requirements, Canadian Therapeutic
Products Directorate (TPD) and ICH guidelines. During her career,
she participated with R&D project teams in the design of clinical
trials that fulfilled both national and international requirements;
organized numerous pre-IND and pre-NDS meetings with the regulatory
agencies; and managed many drug submissions and registrations including
IND, NDS, and s/NDS in different therapeutic areas (i.e. oncology,
endocrinology and metabolism, central nervous system, antiinfectives,
etc.). During the final 3 years of working as a Director of Regulatory
Affairs for a multinational company, Dr. Ho was responsible for
the development of regulatory strategic planning to reduce time
for drug development, in order to bring innovative products to market
in a timely and cost efficient manner. Dr. Ho is also a member of
the Ordre des Pharmaciens du Quebec and the American Association
of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS).
Dr. Ho joined the Company in 2000.
She orchestrated and designed the novel regulatory strategy for
the development of TTX-based products. Under her leadership, the
Company filed its 1st IND in Canada and is currently progressing
into Phase IIb/III stage. In 2002, Dr. Ho became our Chief Scientific
Officer. Besides overseeing our scientific research projects, she
also participated in the completion of the licensing agreement with
our European partner.
Kwong Choo, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance and Administration: Mr. Choo has over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, including 10 years as a Controller in Canada. He was previously the Group Controller at RCI Capital Group Inc. Mr. Choo earned a degree in management accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK in 1990 and holds a CGA designation in Canada.
Peter H. Stafford, Corporate Secretary: Mr. Peter Stafford joined one of the predecessor firms of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in 1966 and is the Managing Director of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin (Pty) Ltd. Legal Consultants in Johannesburg, South Africa. During 1985-1986 Mr. Stafford was Vice-President and General Counsel to The Bank of British Columbia, and from 1987 to 1989 was Vice-President and Chief Counsel of Kaiser Resources Ltd., a finance and investment company. He rejoined Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in 1989. Mr. Stafford's experience is in the areas of corporate and securities law, including mergers and acquisitions, and he has lectured and presented papers on corporate, banking and securities law for a number of professional education organizations.
